There’s great news for fans of John J. York, who plays Mac on General Hospital. The actor is back at the studio were the ABC soap opera tapes in Hollywood. The show’s official Instagram account announced the big news. Read on for the details!
Mac Is Back
“Mac is back!” read the GH social media post. Tagged in the Instagram messages are York’s co-stars Kristina Wagner (Felicia), his longtime leading lady, and Josh Kelly, who plays Mac’s son. York’s t-shirt — which reads MAC IS BACK — indicates the actor’s presence on the GH lot is more than him visiting the show but that he’s also reprising his fan favorite character, which he has played since 1991.
Response to York’s return has been met with nothing but positive comments. “Yeasssssss!!!” responded Finola Hughes (Anna), who has worked with York since his first year on GH. Other posters are not only happy that York is back (and looking good! His hair is growing back in!) — they’re also hoping to see the story of Mac finding out that Cody is his son with the late Dominque (Shell Danielson) be resolved.
York announced he was taking some time off from GH to undergo treatment for myelodysplastic syndromes and multiple smoldering myeloma (two blood and bone marrow disorders). He gave a health update late last year that was encouraging. “[Things] are actually going along very well. I’m still in the middle stages of everything,” York said. “I’m feeling really good. Hopefully, hopefully, things go the way they are, maybe be back on the show late spring, early summer.
“And I just wanted to thank you all so very much for all your notes and messages of support, encouragement, and all the love you’ve been sending my way,” John J. York added. “I feel your hugs every day, and I thank you very much for that. And, and that’s about it. So, one day at a time, one day at a time, we’re gonna take care of this.”
Soap Hub joins York’s many, many fans in rejoicing over this news and we continue to wish the actor continued recovery.
