Jane Elliot Set to Return to GH, Check Out Hot Anniversary Promo

Fan favorite Jane Elliot is headed back to General Hospital as Tracy Quartermaine. The actress originated the role of Edward and Lila Quartermaine’s daughter in 1978. Elliot, who won the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1980, has played the role on and off ever since. It looks like her return is coinciding with the show’s anniversary — and GH released an amazing promo to celebrate it!

The announcement of Elliot’s return was made today at the TV Critics Winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., along with other news related to the ABC soap including the incredible promo celebrating the anniversary below. Elliot is set to pop back up on air in April — the same month that the show will re-introduce the Nurses Ball to the show. Will Tracy be back in time to once again perform at the beloved talent show? The character of Tracy Quartermaine was created by legendary head writer Douglas Marland. He wrote that Tracy was deeply attached to her father, Edward (David Lewis; later, John Ingle), and allowed that obsession to dictate her life. Tracy mistakenly believed that sister-in-law Monica Quartermaine (Leslie Charleson) had conceived her son A.J. with Rick Webber (Chris Robison) and not her husband Alan Quartermaine (Stuart Damon), Tracy’s brother.

Had this turned out to be true, A.J. would not have been eligible to inherit any Quartermaine money as outlined by Uncle Edgar Quartermaine’s will. However, Tracy was wrong. Alan was the father of A.J.

Tracy wore out her welcome in Port Charles in 1980 after she refused to give her “dying” father, Edward, his heart medicine when he suffered an attack. The joke was on Tracy, however. Edward only faked his illness to test her loyalty. It was a test that Tracy failed.

Over the years, Tracy has returned to Port Charles to check in on her sons Ned (Wally Kurth) and Dillon. Her last visit in early 2022 had Tracy deducing that her granddaughter Brook Lynn Quartermaine’s (Amanda Setton) baby Bailey was really Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) daughter Louise.

Tracy’s love interests over the years have included Mitch Williams (Chris Pennock), Paul Hornsby, and Luke Spencer (Anthony Geary). During Elliot’s absences from GH over the decades, she’s hopped to other soaps playing Judy Trent on Knots Landing, Carrie Todd on Guiding Light, Cynthia Preston on All My Children, and Anjelica Deveraux on Days of our Lives.
