Fans are wondering what Professor Dalton is up to on General Hospital. Fresh out of spy school, Josslyn’s first mission is to get close to the teacher and report back on his activities to the WSB. She’s already seen him bring a mysterious briefcase to the hospital lab only to leave without it. While all this is happening, Daniel Goddard is settling nicely into the role of Dalton. The actor recently opened up about how the show has surprised him.

He Felt Very Welcome

Professor Dalton and Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) recently met at the Savoy. While we’re still waiting for Joss (Eden McCoy) to uncover what he’s up to, seeing him with Anna makes us wonder if she’s somehow a target of the college teacher. Goddard explained to Soap Opera Digest that those first scenes with Hughes were impressive.

He described the acting process in a soap opera as, “Rehearse, take [shoot on camera], rehearse, take,” and so when Hughes asked him before their scenes if he needed her to do anything (acting-wise), he was thinking, “Oh, my God, this is wonderful!” Being the new guy, her question made him feel very welcome.

They Elevated Their Scenes’ Energy

He explained that when an actor is new on a show, it’s wonderful when the other castmates welcome him in, asking for his input on how to make the scenes better. “Let’s just have fun,” was his answer to Hughes. He excitedly remarked that she replied, “Oh, my God, I would love that!” He found that unexpected response to be very gratifying.

His admiration for the GH vet increased exponentially as they worked on their scenes together. He stated, “It’s interesting because she’s such a professional and she’s so good at what she does that you can play the moments in between the dialogue.” Goddard noted that those subtle points amidst the dialogue help to elevate scenes from being mere starts and stops, and give them a profound energy.
