Alexa Havins has made the role of General Hospital’s Lulu her own after debuting as a recast in November 2024. After the character was comatose for four years, Havins brought to the part an energy and verve that revitalized Lulu, gearing her up for more adventures to come. And she might end up bringing something else to the show: her real-life husband, Justin Bruening.
Tad Was His Dad
When Havins and Bruening worked together on All My Children, as Babe Chandler and Jamie Martin, respectively, the two fell in love and eventually tied the knot. Bruening recently sat down with Swoon to discuss his thoughts on possibly joining his wife on GH, although he’s got his plate full with Netflix’s Sweet Magnolias.
Bruening explained that he would enjoy appearing on-screen with his beautiful bride. “It’d be fun. I love working with my wife, so it’d be fun to pop on. We had a joke that I want to start showing up in just the background as just a random barista.” It helps that Michael E. Knight, who currently plays attorney Martin Grey on GH, formerly played Bruening’s AMC father Tad “The Cad” Martin.

Never Say Never
Bruening detailed how Havins took him to the GH holiday party as her plus-one. “Man, I got a lot of friends on that.” As sweet as he thought it was that she took him, there was one driving force that ensured he’d make an appearance at the party. “I just went to see Michael Knight,” he casually stated, adding, “He was there and right away was like, ‘How do we make this work this season? You could be my…’ ”
However, Bruening had to remind Knight about Sweet Magnolias, explaining that Knight said, “Oh, that’s right, you’ve got your show. Darn it. Well, I’ll figure it out. I’m gonna keep on it.” Knight, according to Bruening, is still actively trying to find a way to get him on the soap. When it comes to a possible appearance, the actor stated, “I’ll never say never.”
