On General Hospital, busybody Lucy Coe is bebopping all over Port Charles, recruiting talent for the 2025 Nurses’ Ball. She’s also continuing to deal with stumbling blocks that keep arising at Deception Cosmetics. But the challenges that Lucy faces don’t compare to the tragedy Lynn Herring suffered when her longtime husband, Wayne Northrop, died in December 2024. She recently opened up about what got her through the ordeal.

Work is Like Family

Herring spoke with TV Insider and revealed that going back to work helped take her mind off her terrible loss. Northrop was well-known for playing the original Roman Brady on Days of Our Lives and had also played Rex Stanton on GH. The couple was married for 43 years, and Northrop died from Alzheimer’s disease

The actress explained that being creative and troubleshooting issues at work was a way of distracting herself from her misfortune. She also praised her co-workers, stating, “GH helped me so much, because you get there, and we have such a good group.” Being friends with her co-workers for decades has made them come to feel like family to her.

It’s Total Escapism

She further noted that returning to the studio was fun because, “You crack jokes, and they just treat me like everything’s the same. It’s a total escapism to get away from any sad thoughts.” Simply being around and interacting with her co-workers was a great help for her. “I have to tell you, sitting around the tables at the Nurses Ball, that was the warmest feeling, too,” she said.

But it’s not just her work family that helped lift her spirits. Herring praised her loyal fans, stating, “Their support has just been so overwhelming, I can’t even tell you. It gets to me.” She was blown away by the fact that the viewers actually care about the actors, finding it to be “amazing.”
