General Hospital is known for honoring late cast members with special shows. The ABC soap announced that the late Sonya Eddy, who died in December, will be getting a dedicated tribute episode to her and her character, Epiphany Johnson.
At the TV Critics Winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., it was announced that GH will honor Sonya Eddy with a stand-alone episode in late March. Eddy joined the show in 2006 as Epiphany Johnson, the head nurse who took over at General Hospital for retiring Audrey Hardy (Rachel Ames). Epiphany was known for holding medical professionals up to high standards and took no prisoners with her no-nonsense approach. Tragically, she passed away in December.
No word yet on who might return for Eddy’s tribute episode but recently, Kimberly McCullough, who played Dr. Robin Scorpio Drake on GH, reunited with two former co-stars to honor their late pal. “A break in the rain and a gorgeous sunset for our beloved Sonya Eddy,” McCullough wrote. “Grateful we had some time to celebrate her and the friendship we shared.”
As you can see in McCullough’s Instagram post below, she reconnected with Minae Noji (ex-Dr. Kelly Lee) and Kent Masters King (ex-Dr. Lainey Winters) at the beach when the trio gathered to remember Eddy. “Lovely to see you guys together,” posted Finola Hughes (Anna Devane), McCullough’s TV mother.
GH is known for putting great care into tribute episodes. In the last few years, characters have gotten together to honor characters played by the late John Reilly (ex-Sean Donely), Peter Hansen (ex-Lee Baldwin), and Susan Brown (ex-Dr. Gail Adamson Baldwin).
In recent months, appearances made by Sonya Eddy on GH dealt with Epiphany taking steps to explore her long-running desire to become a doctor. She was encouraged by her pal Marshall Ashford (Robert Gossett) to fulfill her dreams. Over the years, Epiphany sang at the Nurses Ball. She performed the song “You’re Not Alone” at both the Nurses Ball and at the funeral of late nurse Sabrina Santiago (Teresa Castillo).
