After four years of breaking new ground as the first black female lead in a Canadian primetime TV series, Diggstown, it appears that as one door closes for Vinessa Antoine, a new one is opening. The former General Hospital actress is on a new path but it hasn’t been without a few bumps in the road.
While GH fans grew to love her as the original Jordan Ashford, Antoine left to take on the Diggstown role. Now, after four years, the show has ended and she’s sharing the new role she’s taken on. “Directing has always felt like a natural progression for me,” she shared in an Instagram post. “I’ve been lucky enough to work in this industry for over two decades in front of the camera.
“Despite me asking several directors for shadowing opportunities, Only TWO directors have actually gone above and beyond to shepherd this next journey for me from prep to camera,” she continued. “I’m standing with one here. Shamim Sarif.” You can see the two in the picture she used here.
“Both have been women. Both have been women of color. Go figure,” she remarked. “It’s the lifting each other up for me….Shamim is not only a mentor, but she has also been incredibly generous with her knowledge and her time. I’m forever grateful that she let me tag along on this project. I appreciate you so much. I will never forget this. I feel ready.”
Considering how well Vinessa Antoine has done with every other challenge she has taken on, it’s a safe bet she’ll soar as director. So what is on her plate? The gorgeous star gave a bit of a hint at the end of her caption. “I will shoot my short. I will shoot my damn short. Lol.” Soap Hub is looking forward to seeing it!
