Sonny Corinthos coming home last year didn’t guarantee he and Carly Corinthos would go back to the way things were on General Hospital. The two were reunited but Sonny hasn’t been the same since his sojourn in Nixon Falls. As a result, Carly is experiencing a new life, which her portrayer, Laura Wright, spoke to recently.

Laura Wright Talks Who Carly Is Without Sonny

Wright, Maurice Benard (Sonny), and Cynthia Watros (Nina Reeves) took part in a panel last month at the General Hospital Creation fan event in Burbank, and Soap Hub was there.

Among the topics that the trio dove into was Carly’s life now that she and Sonny have broken up. “Carly’s trying to figure out what [being single] looks like right now,” Wright told attendees. “She’s not ready at all to step into anything with anyone. She’s still trying to figure out what [life] looks like without Sonny.”

My Enemy, My Friend

As an example of never knowing what life is going to throw your way, Laura Wright noted that Carly has been having conversations with one of her former adversaries. “Carly and Sam [Kelly Monaco] are hanging out which is awesome. She has a little girl [Donna]. Also, Josslyn’s [Eden McCoy] sex tape is a big deal. She’s trying to figure out what life looks like without Sonny.”

While Carly has shared screen-time with Cameron Mathison’s Drew Cain, she’s not sure yet whether or not the two characters will become a couple. What Wright can say is that she thoroughly enjoys working with Mathison. “I feel like I’m working with myself,” the actress says. “Cam and I are very similar in how we break down a scene and how we run lines. It’s great.”

Wright points out that she and Mathison have known each other for a long time, dating back to when they were both on New York-based soaps. She was on Guiding Light as Cassie while Mathison was playing Ryan Lavery on All My Children. For now, Wright suggests, Carly and Drew are good pals.

“It’s so new,” the actress says. “This is a whole new world for Carly. She’s got a new haircut. She’s really present and in the moment.” Drew and Carly came this close to kissing one day, but their lips didn’t lock. “We do know that [Carly] stopped that kiss. The old version of Carly would not have…this is all new for her.”
