It’s been many a moon since we’ve clapped eyes on Max Giambetti, Sonny’s loyal bodyguard. But actor Derk Cheetwood certainly has a reason to celebrate.
That’s because he was born on October 8, 1973, in Bowling Green, Ohio which means that this much-loved performer is turning 50 years old today!
For a brief period of time in the mid-2000s, the set at General Hospital was conducive to a family reunion for Cheetwood who worked alongside his younger brother Drew (who plays Max’s brother Milo), and their cousin Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas Cassadine).
Although Cheetwood is mostly known for playing big-hearted Max — who crushed on his boss’s wife before falling in love with his temperamental lawyer — his early acting credits include appearances on tv series such as Brotherly Love, Beverly Hills, 90210, Ally McBeal, and 3rd Rock From the Sun.
Cheetwood’s film roles include parts in The Postman, Frailty, and U-571. Subsequent to his hiring at General Hospital, he has also made appearances on series including Moonlight, Masters of Sex, The Mentalist, and The Last Ship (on which he had a small recurring role).
On August 5, 2006, Cheetwood married Cari Costner — the niece of Kevin Costner whom Cheetwood worked with (as a co-star) and for (Kevin directed the picture) on the set of The Postman. The couple is the proud parents to three children — two girls (Kylie Danielle and Audrey Jane) and a boy (Cody).
