The relationship-heavy episode of General Hospital that aired on Tuesday, February 27, didn’t pull many punches. Characters made dramatic pleas for understanding, for being heard, and, most importantly, for staying together. In Maxie and Spinelli’s case, the pleas were for reuniting. Let’s just say there were varying degrees of success.
Drew and Carly (Status: Tentatively together)
After Carly (Laura Wright) quit Crimson and Drew (Cameron Mathison) logged a session with a punching bag, it was time for the two to get down to the nitty-gritty of their differences. It was important for Carly to be able to forget Nina (Cynthia Watros, Nancy Lee Grahn talks about working with Watros here) ever existed. Ultimately, that’s why she felt she had to quit because she knew Drew’s agenda didn’t involve calling off his plans for payback.
Drew needed Carly to hear him, mainly about how Pentonville changed him forever. That he wasn’t the same man he was going into prison. At the end of the day, Carly was adamant that Drew had to figure out a way to let go of his pent-up rage. That it would only serve to destroy their life together. And if that happened, Nina won. Drew decided to try, and the two ended up in bed together.
How solid is their relationship? Only time will tell, especially with Jason on his way back to Port Charles.
Sonny (Maurice Benard) surprised Nina at Ava’s gallery and immediately exerted his usual round of intimidation tactics. His side of the conversation was cold, short, and he made sure his eyes held no expression or feeling whatsoever. In addition, he put her on the spot. Even when she brought up how he took off his wedding ring, he didn’t crack.
As for Nina, she didn’t hold back. She had a lot to say, and with anyone else, she would have gotten some type of emotion back. Sure, she owned up to all that she did in Nixon Falls and with the SEC.
But she also shared her frustration over being held to a different standard when it came to revenge and lashing out. Sonny felt hers came from a different place. That what she did was “reckless and petty,” and while he may eventually be able to forgive her for punishing Carly, he won’t ever forget.
Sonny and Nina’s long-awaited conversation ended with Sonny walking out. Do you think they’ll ever reconnect, or is their relationship over for good?
Blaze’s (Jacqueline Grace Lopez) mom, Natalia (Eva LaRue, who recently joined GH), instantly jeopardized Blaze and Kristina’s relationship from the second she barged in and found Kristina (Kate Mansi) in Blaze’s hotel room bed. At first, Blaze let her mom dominate the situation. But that didn’t last for long. Soon, she spoke up for herself, defended her life, and also came out to her mom.
You could tell she was proud of herself, and calling Kristina her girlfriend was the right way to come out to her mom. Unfortunately, who knows how accepting Natalia will ultimately be so Blaze and Kristina should consider her a threat from here on out.
They’re together, and they’re riding a wave of doing the right thing. But how long will that last with Natalia around?
After Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) shared a kiss at the bar, it looked like they had potential for something more. At home, Spinelli followed up that romantic moment by telling Maxie he was falling in love with her again. In turn, she whispered that she loved him under her breath.
And everything was going swimmingly until Spinelli came completely clean with Maxie. He told her exactly why he moved in with her, and Maxie immediately guessed that he was in cahoots with Felicia (Kristina Wagner). She didn’t appreciate being treated like a helpless human being who couldn’t solve her own issues.
After Spinelli begged her to rethink this sudden cold turn, Maxie told him to pack his bags and go. She kicked him to the curb.
