Rocco has had a tough time lately on General Hospital. First, his surrogate step-mom Sam (Kelly Monaco) died after donating part of her liver to his mother, Lulu. Then Lulu woke up, and mother and son reunited, but she immediately ran off to find her other kid, Charlotte. Poor Rocco’s head is spinning right about now, but thankfully, Finn Carr, who plays Rocco, has someone he can lean on when things get crazy for the young actor.

They Have a Special Thing

When Carr first had scenes with his on-screen grandmother Laura, her portrayer, Genie Francis, immediately took him under her wing. He told Soap Opera Digest, “I feel like I definitely grow a lot as an actor every single time I’m in a scene with her. And that’s a really cool thing to be able to say and a really unique experience. I’m really so lucky to have that with her.” Referring to Francis as an “amazing” person, Carr explained that whenever he had questions or an issue, he would go to her for advice.

The fact that her acting skills and work ethic have rubbed off on the young actor hasn’t gone unnoticed. Carr felt that when he’s in a scene with the soap legend, those scenes become more poignant because of her great skill and how he’s able to play off of that. “We just have a really special thing,” he remarked.

Patience Is Key

Carr explained that Francis’ influence has helped to improve his own acting skills. He finds he’s very proud of the scenes that they share and feels it’s a testament to her many years on the job. When the script called for Rocco to emote after Sam’s death, he was very anxious about doing them. But Francis stepped in, and her patience rubbed off on him, as well as her calm demeanor, which he considered, “Are such amazing things to be able to draw from. I feel like I’m a better actor when I’m acting with her.”

In the fast-paced world of making soaps, Francis told Carr that they would take things slowly. “We’re gonna do justice to you and to this character,” she explained to him. Carr found her words to be very “powerful.” And felt that the resulting scenes were something that the audience could truly appreciate. “I’d say that I owe a lot of my success to her,” he humbly stated.
