Ever since it was announced that Kelly Monaco would be exiting General Hospital and leaving the role of Sam behind, fans have been inconsolable. There was a brief glimmer of hope that things might change when Sam survived the liver transplant to Lulu. Her recovery seemed nice and smooth. Those hopes were dashed when she suddenly died from a heart attack. And it was recently revealed who Sam’s killer was.
Cyrus Was Too Obvious
GH fans were treated to an extra shot of Monaco as Sam on the December 11 episode. Suddenly, a flashback revealed that Cyrus (Jeff Kober) had injected Digitalis into her IV while she was unconscious. Although we got one more fleeting glimpse of Sam than we expected, the reveal was still a dark moment. It subsequently caught everyone off guard on social media.
The official X, formerly Twitter, page for cast members Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Steve Burton’s (Jason) podcast Daily Drama posted thoughts on the Cyrus reveal. And the fans went nuts. One viewer was irritated that Cyrus’ redemption story came to a screeching halt with the reply, “SO disappointed — [they] took the lazy way out. I wanted Cyrus to be [a] changed man. Should have been Sidwell (Carlo Rota).” Indeed, the fan further speculated that it would have been more of a surprise because Cyrus was too obvious a choice. Meanwhile, Sidwell could have also been the one who messed with Lulu’s ventilator. (Find out how Monaco could return to GH.)
The Angel of Death?
There was speculation across the Twitterverse as to Cyrus’ motives. Many questions arose, such as why he wanted to move Lulu to South Carolina and why Sam died before Lulu even woke up. Another fan further speculated, “There’s more going on here,” responding to one who wrote, “Unless it’s someone posing as him. Because he said he wasn’t there and he had a different look.” Impostors with realistic masks aren’t unprecedented on the show, so that’s an important point to consider.
One possible reason for Cyrus’ actions that makes sense was proposed. “I think he is picturing himself as the Angel of Death. Maybe he thinks he is cleansing the world, as directed by his loony thinking in doing what God wants him to do.” And one fan hilariously theorized, “Nothing says undying love like killing the competition…” possibly meaning that Lulu would take too much attention from Cyrus’ sister and her mother, Laura (Genie Francis).
Whether fans like or dislike the storyline, it has them continuing to watch and talk about it!
