Fans of General Hospital’s Kelly Monaco have not been silent about their feelings toward the actress’s firing, and they made sure all of Times Square knew it over the weekend.
Standing With Kelly
Since the news of Monaco being let go from GH broke last month, fans have made it clear they disagree with the decision. Along with the hashtag #IStandWithKelly, fans have taken to X (formerly Twitter) daily asking GH and ABC to rehire the actress.
Monaco started in the soap opera genre in 2000 when she portrayed Tess, and later Livvie – opposite Michael Easton’s Caleb – in Port Charles. When the spinoff got cancelled, the actress joined GH as Sam, a character she has portrayed for over 20 years.
While rumors swirl the character of Sam will be killed off, Monaco subtly broke her silence about her exit when she shared a photo on the anniversary of former GH co-star Billy Miller’s death.
Lighting Up Times Square
Monaco’s fans are so committed to getting her back on GH, they bought a billboard in Times Square for the cause. A group who call themselves the “official campaign headquarters” with the username @IStandWithKelly documented the billboard flashing over the red stairs in Times Square on September 20, 2024.
The bright red billboard image featured a silhouette of Monaco along with the hashtag #IStandWithKelly and the words, “Rehire Kelly Monaco on ABC’s General Hospital.”
Along with the billboard, the campaign also has a truck, dubbed “The Phoenix On Wheels,” which has been driving around Los Angeles and Prospect Studios, where GH is filmed.
