Although the General Hospital audience knows that Willow not only shot Drew, but also injected him with something that caused a stroke, Nina only has some vague suspicions. She’s been carefully noting Willow’s growing antipathy toward her malicious husband. As that tension plays out in Port Charles, in real life, Cynthia Watros was given a wonderful surprise by her onscreen daughter, Katelyn MacMullen.

Key Takeaways

  • Cynthia Watros was surprised on set with a belated birthday gift from a fan.
  • Katelyn MacMullen presented the handmade miniature Crimson desk during the walkthrough.
  • Watros reacted with visible delight and pointed out the detailed touches on the piece.
  • The moment highlighted the connection between the show, its cast, and long-time viewers.

A Desk, A Pause, A Very Specific Kind of Love

The GH official Instagram page shared a video with the caption, “We couldn’t wait to surprise @watros.watros with a very belated birthday gift. 🎂🎁 @katey_macmullen #GH #GeneralHospital #BehindtheScenes.” In the video, MacMullen (Willow) escorted Watros (Nina) across the set, saying, “Okay, Cynthia, there’s a little surprise for you. It’s a belated birthday gift. It was an international package, so it got caught in customs. This is from a fan. Her name is Brittany, and she made this just for you.”

Watros was stunned, but not completely surprised, saying, “Oh my gosh, can you believe it? Finally got here!” What Brittany made was a miniature version of Nina’s Crimson office desk, down to the red notebook, the tiny chair, the computer, and even the pens.

Watros showed it to the audience, pointing things out as they registered. “Look at this. Look at the cutest little desk of Crimson with the little chair like this,” she remarked, adding, “And look, the red, little notebook like I have, and then you’ve got the computer, and look at this…the pencil, the pens, even before we switched them out, they were always white, so attention to detail. This is so cute. Thank you so much, and I’m so happy we finally have it. Yay!” (Check out the epic Easter Egg fans noticed when Willow took out Drew.)

Fans Filled the Space Immediately

The comments poured in fast, and they all circled the same feeling. “That’s actually super awesome!” wrote one fan. “Absolutely perfection ❤️,” said another. Someone else just went with, “That is sooooo cute. Recognized what it was immediately.”

A lot of viewers wanted it placed directly on Nina’s desk during scenes. “This needs to stay on her desk!! That’s amazing,” one wrote, echoed by several others who suggested it become a permanent background fixture. A few leaned into the humor. “What is this? A desk for ants?” one joked, while another suggested passing it off as something Wiley (Viron Weaver) made, noting the show had pulled off stranger explanations.

Mixed in were quieter appreciations. “A lot of time went into that… truly a keepsake forever.” “You can tell how much love went into this.” And more than a few simply said they loved Nina, loved Watros, loved that the show still made room for moments like this.
