While everyone gathered to say a heartbreaking farewell to Sam on General Hospital, not everything that happened at the funeral quite made sense.
Enemy Speeches
The funeral featured heartfelt speeches from Sam’s (ex-Kelly Monaco) loved ones, including her mom, her sisters, and her son. But not all of the speeches seemed appropriate for the situation.
Two of Sam’s biggest enemies throughout her 21 years in Port Charles spoke at her funeral: Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Carly (Laura Wright). While flashbacks of some of their biggest arguments were fun to relive, these two women speaking of their love/hate relationship with Sam was something no one needed to hear at her funeral.
Gio’s Song
As the funeral wrapped, everyone was led out to the tune of a violin, courtesy of Gio (Giovanni Mazza). The problem with this was that Gio had no relation to Sam, and almost no relation to anyone there.
A better fit for a musical tribute would have been for Spinelli to honor his friend with a song. Many may remember that the cyber genius lent his voice at Nathan’s (ex-Ryan Paevey) memorial to honor the fallen cop, so performing a song for Sam seemed much more fitting than a violin piece.
Ignoring LuSam
Sam and Lucky (then played by Days of our Lives’ Greg Vaughan) were one of Port Charles’ biggest supercouples in the early 2000s, when Lucky was separated from Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Sam and Jason (Steve Burton, who recently dished on the filming of the funeral scenes) were on one of their breaks. So when Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) got up to make a speech, it was easy to assume he would mention his history with Sam.
Instead, all Lucky did was refer to her as a good friend. Sure, it wasn’t possible to show flashbacks of LuSam’s relationship like others had with their speeches, but at least a mention of it would have made things a little more realistic.
No Jeromes
Something that was mising from Sam’s funeral was a small but prominent chunk of her family on the Jerome side. Sure, her aunt Ava (Maura West) most likely wouldn’t have been welcomed, but she at least made an attempt. As for Lucas (Van Hansis), he should have taken his rightful place at his sister’s funeral instead of letting Danny (Asher Antonyzyn) keep him away.
But there was one more Jerome noticeably missing from the gathering: Julian (ex-William deVry). Sure, he’s presumed dead, and sure, he’s technically on the run from the law, but you’d think he’d at least sneak to Port Charles to say goodbye to his daughter… and possibly reveal he’s alive in the process.
