In this day and age, it’s been difficult for a television show to remain on the air for any great length of time. How often has a viewer been captivated by a new series only to have the plug pulled on it after airing a scant few episodes? As such, it can be mind-boggling to think about a show like General Hospital being on the air for 62 years and counting. With only four other soaps on the air, ratings are critical for the survival of the genre, considering most of them have been around for several decades.
The Top Spot Attained
GH showed its dominance when it rocketed to the number one spot on Hulu, according to Soap Opera Network. During the week of June 2-6, the soap moved from the 12th spot to number one by June 3, where it beat out ABC 2020, and The Handmaid’s Tale’s new season.
Other shows that it surpassed in Hulu’s Top 15 were Family Guy, Adults, Nine Perfect Strangers, and Bob’s Burgers, just to name a few. It had remained at number one through Wednesday, June 4. Then it was temporarily bumped to second place on June 5. However, it jumped back to the top spot by Friday, June 6, where it remained through the weekend.

Lots of Reasons
There are many reasons why GH would leap to number one, including the major reveal about Gio’s (Giovanni Mazza) parentage. The young man overheard that his parents were not who he had grown up to believe, but actually Brook Lynn (Amanda Setton) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna).
Other reasons the show is doing well are most likely the dark depths that Drew (Cameron Mathison) is headed to, and the reveal that Michael (Rory Gibson) is the father of Sasha’s (Sofia Mattsson) baby. A baby who was shockingly born in the courthouse. Whatever the reason, this is great news for soap fans as their favorite shows continue to justify their existence to the networks that air them.
