On General Hospital, Curtis has been making massive strides in his life. After the experimental surgery, he worked hard to get back on his feet. And, as a result, he’s out of the wheelchair and walking again…without a cane. In the Thursday, April 12 episode, the show potentially introduced the next phase of his life and career. It just wasn’t what we expected.
Curtis (Donnell Turner) can do almost anything he puts his mind to — he’s that kind of guy. From private investigator to Savoy club owner, it’s been great to see him thrive in a couple of different milieus.
We love Curtis when he’s in mission mode. That’s when he flies off to Greenland to help save Trina (Tabyana Ali) or works with Sam (Kelly Monaco) to get to the bottom of a case. Better yet, originally he was determined to find out who shot him. Then when the experimental surgery popped up, he had no choice but to work on healing his body. This left Jordan (Tanisha Harper) on her own to do the leg work (sorry, Curtis). (Check out a video preview of this week’s GH here)
Wouldn’t it be great if Curtis started digging into his case again? Imagine him being the wild card that breaks it wide open despite the presence of the feds, the PCPD, and even Sonny (Maurice Benard). If he found out Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) is currently large and in charge of Pikeman, would he tell his friend Nina (Cynthia Watros)?
So our expectations after he healed were for him to continue to keep his mind and body active by finding clues, chasing leads, and being a part of the action. Why can’t Curtis, Drew (Cameron Mathison), and Sam open up a chain of PI agencies across the country instead of wellness centers, facilities, or gyms? Sure, it’s off-brand for Aurora Media, but they can take the idea elsewhere, or run it independently.
Clearly, GH wants to take Curtis in a new direction, one that’ll have him interacting with Drew and maybe Michael (Chad Duell) more. (Find out more about this week’s GH in Soap. Hub’s Weekly Update here)
And he is right, the health and wellness crazy is massive right now. Opening a series of gyms and spreading the good word about self-care, six-pack abs, and genuinely feeling good about yourself is trendy, fun, and cool.
The reality today is this partnership with Drew, Michael, and Aurora Media is what’s happening. If this wellness story develops and leads somewhere great, more power to it. We do love that Curtis will get to do something new. However, will this mean his Savoy days are over? Hope not. We’re all for him building an empire. And who knows, maybe the fitness world will generate its own mystery that’ll demand Curtis’s attention.
