It should come as no surprise that Disney has owned ABC since 1996 and is also the owner of Marvel Comics. References to the comic company have occurred on General Hospital, most memorably in 2012 when Spinelli sought advice from an Avengers poster while trying to solve a murder. Newcomer to the show, Chris McKenna, who plays WSB Station Chief, Jack Brennan, recently opened up about a major Marvel connection he has that’s been a cause for some confusion.

A Stolen Identity

On a recent episode of the podcast, That’s Awesome!, hosts Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) spoke to their guest, McKenna. Right off the bat, after introducing their newest castmate, Anderson asked if he forgot to use McKenna’s middle initial ‘L,’ to which the actor replied, “Yeah, there’s some other poser out there who stole my name years ago.”

McKenna added, “Yeah, this awful person.” He stated, “He’s taller than me, too, which is a shame.” He then asked, “I’m the short Chris McKenna?” When Burton asked if it had to do with the Screen Actors Guild, McKenna confirmed it: “It was for SAG originally when I first joined…but then that guy never really did anything, so that wasn’t the problem.”

Do They Share Credits?

The actor then explained what the problem was: “There’s a very famous writer who wrote half the Marvel movies and American Dad and, uh, and now he gets half my credits and I get half of his.” Clearly pulling their legs, he continued, noting, “I get some of the swag that he’s supposed to get.”

He continued, remarking, “I have Spider-Man iPhone cases that were supposed to be sent to him that came to me.” He explained that their credits often get mixed up and declared that he’s often gotten job offers meant for the other McKenna, adding, “He makes a lot more money than me…I’ve tried to claim them. It hasn’t worked out.”

Obviously, McKenna was kidding. The other Chris McKenna has written several things, including the three most recent Spider-Man films, and Ant-Man and the Wasp, among others.
