Like something out of a post-apocalyptic nightmare, the Los Angeles wildfire has been causing mass destruction. General Hospital’s Cameron Mathison was completely affected as his family home was utterly and horrifically destroyed. The actor took some time to explain in detail what was lost in the blaze, and it’s a lot.

He Left With the Clothes on His Back

Mathison, whose GH character Drew has come under fire lately for an affair with his nephew’s wife, spoke with Good Morning America about the tragic events. He even shared videos that he took with the news outlet so they could witness firsthand the devastation. After explaining that his family’s safety trumped everything else, he sadly remarked, “I’ve lost…my home and everything that I own. I have this hoodie and a pair of pants and, and two pairs of sneakers left. That’s it.”

The actor described how his head was spinning trying to wrap his brain around the fact that everything he and his family owned is now ash. Considering the whole situation, “surreal,” he noted, “There’s a lot of things that are replaceable, but the, the kids’ projects…their, their baby photos were only film…my own, my childhood…like there’s just so much.” He further expressed his understanding that hundreds of other folks were also experiencing the same shocking loss.

There Was Nothing Left

Mathison explained that while he lived in Altadena, he was driving to dinner in Pasadena when he saw a flash of light on a hill. “I think I saw that Eaton Canyon fire begin. I mean, it was just a tiny little blip, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s not good.’ ” During his dinner, his phone erupted with several messages telling him about the fire, so he ran back to his house, “And I put a bag together with like what I’m wearing and etc. and I left to come and stay at an apartment here in Pasadena with my daughter and…her mom.”

The news reported about how the wind was fanning the flames, making everything worse, so Mathison “Went back up into the smoke and the fire and I, I got passports and birth certificates and whatever photo albums I could get.” Mathison could see the video he shared with the outlet, explaining, “I’m glad you don’t have the audio up because it, it’s, it’s, I, I, I’m having a real tough time in this video.” He paused to collect himself as his emotions became overwhelming. (Check out the update from GH’s Nancy Lee Grahn amidst the tragic circumstances.)

The video showed that there was nothing left of his house, which he lamented was the place “that we…raised our kids in.”
