On General Hospital, Ava has found herself in the strangest of alliances — banding together with Kristina and Alexis to take down Ric. In one of the most shocking twists of the year, the trio actually kidnapped him, stashing him in Alexis’ basement after Ava bashed him over the head. But Ric being Ric, it didn’t take long before he broke free, and now Alexis may be facing his wrath. What this means for “Rava” is anyone’s guess, but according to Rick Hearst, who plays Ric, this basement betrayal may not be the end of his story with Ava after all.
Stranger Things Have Happened
Speaking with Soap Opera Digest, Hearst admitted he doesn’t see Ric and Ava’s (Maura West) combustible romance as finished. He confessed, “This is going to sound really screwball, but I really hope this isn’t the end for the two of them.” For him, the coupling still feels unfinished, like the writers only scratched the surface. “I feel like Ava and Ric were just getting started!” Hearst added.
He was also candid about his disappointment in how the storyline unraveled, noting that it created a rift that might be too definitive. Yet he quickly reminded fans of the unpredictable nature of daytime: anything is possible. Hearst emphasized his joy in working opposite West, saying their chemistry both on-screen and off is undeniable. One director even declared, “I think they’re just delicious together,” a sentiment Hearst clearly shares.
A Complicated Attraction
Hearst also dug deeper into why he thinks the two characters work despite the blackmail, betrayal, and hostage drama. “With Ava, he can be who he is,” he explained, adding that there’s an authenticity between them that Ric doesn’t get with others. He admitted, though, that Ava was right to doubt his commitment — Ric’s lingering pull toward Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) has always complicated things.
Even still, Hearst explained further that Ric and Ava have a connection built on a mutual understanding because both have seen the darker sides of themselves in each other. It’s that dynamic that makes their relationship both steamy and compelling. While it remains to be seen whether they reunite or remain enemies, the two are certainly one of the most unique couples in Port Charles, and Hearst is hopeful that the door for their reconnection will remain open.
