Helping to kick off a new TV news soap segment, General Hospital’s Asher Antonyzyn talked about working on the soap as a newcomer. He had nothing but nice things to say about everyone involved in making the soap and even shared a teaser, and he also teased some challenges ahead for his on-screen alter ego.
Part of the GH Family
Appearing on the debut of Soap Chat on ABC7 Chicago’s Stream Team Hour, the hosts welcomed General Hospital’s Asher Antonyzyn (Danny), who cheerfully stated, “I’m glad to help kick it off.” They explained that GH is his first acting job and asked what it was like walking onto the set of the legendary soap. “I was just like [in] awe…You know, walking onto there, I’m like…” he said, holding his hands up and shrugging, illustrating his amazement, and adding, “It’s so brand new to me.” He explained that everyone, including the cast and crew, welcomed him. “It was like another family, like being a part of that. It was so awesome,” he stated.
Antonyzyn explained that his first scenes were part of the teen scene, noting that Hudson West (Jake) was one of his first scene partners. “He’s one of my great friends,” he proudly stated, further remarking that the scenes where their two characters had a fistfight were fun to shoot.
He was asked what it was like to work with co-stars such as Steve Burton, who plays his on-screen dad Jason. “Working with Steve,” he began, adding, “He’s like such an energetic guy, and he’s like…he welcomed me right in. Like the bond you see on camera is what you see off camera.” He then gushed over his TV dad, stating, “Working with him has just been such a great learning experience. Learning from a legend like him is so awesome. [He’s] such a great guy.”
A Surprise
They showed Antonyzyn a message that Burton sent to them when he learned the young boy was going to be a guest on Soap Chat, which said, “It’s been awesome to get to know Asher. We have a great time working together and it’s really cool to see him grow as an actor. The future is bright for him. Looking forward to see what the show has in store for us.” Taken aback, Antonyyn reacted, “That’s so sweet of him. He’s such a great guy.”
The hosts brought up the scenes where Jason taught Danny how to fix a motorcycle. “That was awesome,” he said, adding, “and the other scene where I put his leather coat on…that was just like…I [felt] like a different person.”
Since he’s still in school, they asked if his days were challenging in trying to juggle that and work. “It was hard, like, to get used to it,” he explained, remarking that from January to March, he would spend two weeks working on GH and then two weeks back in his native Chicago. “It was pretty difficult, but I got it done,” he explained after noting that his teachers were very lenient with his schedule.
When asked if we would see more of Danny interacting with Jason in the near future, Antonyzyn teased, “Coming up, there’s gonna be some tough decisions for Danny that he’s gonna have to make. But yeah, there’s gonna be some challenging stuff coming up for Danny, so stay tuned to watch that. It’s gonna be awesome.”
Antonyzyn also surprised his fans by promoting his appearance on the talk show on Instagram, writing, “Had the BEST time this morning on @abc7chicago, to help launch their new segment, #SoapChat! @tracybutlerabc7 and @dianepathieu could not have been more welcoming, and it was amazing to also meet @terrell_brown_productions, @valwarnertv, @chitowntont, @artistalx1, Kap and Hoodie (hosts of ESPN1000 radio), and all the incredible ABC7 crew. And a huge thanks to @1steveburton for the surprise note 🥰 I can’t wait to come back!”
The show responded, stating that he was welcome back whenever his schedule allowed.
