Van Hansis returns to daytime as General Hospital recasts the role of Lucas Jones. From 2005-2010, Hansis portrayed Luke Snyder on the now-defunct soap opera As The World Turns.
A Whole New Lucas
According to TV Insider, Hansis, a Daytime Emmy Award nominee, will take over the role previously portrayed by Ryan Carnes. The actor has not appeared on daytime in 14 years. He told the outlet that he was able to get back into the swing of being on a soap.
Hansis also talked about the similarity of the two characters’ names — Luke and Lucas. “I guess I have a type, huh? There are times when I want to call myself Luke, but then I know that there’s Luke [Anthony Geary] and Laura [Genie Francis], and Luke is one of the biggest soap characters in the world. So, I know I’m not that Luke, but there are weird little similarities between Luke Snyder and Lucas,” He said.

Of course, he researched Lucas, and he noticed that Lucas and Luke have similarities too. “When I got the part, I was looking up who the character was, and they both have the same dad stuff going on with their birth father being kind of a dirtbag because Luke had Damian [Paolo Seganti] and Lucas has Julian [William deVry] and then adopted fathers, so there are parallels.”
Lucas was born in 1989. His biological parents are the late Cheryl Stansbury and the late Julian Jerome. Bobbie Spencer Jones (Jacklyn Zeman) and Tony Jones (Brad Maule) adopted him. He’s a doctor, and the last time Lucas was on the canvas was in January 2024, when his adopted mother, Bobbie, died.
Hansis first airs on GH on Friday, October 4, so you won’t have to wait too long to see his take on Lucas. However, it’s possible the soap will experience preemption on Thursday, October 3, due to the Major League Baseball post-season wild card game. If that’s the case, Hansis might not air until Monday, October 7.
