Some General Hospital fans will never get over the fact that Brenda is out there somewhere but not with Sonny. This star-crossed pair first got together in the 1990s and have had many hits and misses over the decade. Now, actor Maurice Benard has a story about how it all began.
“Wendy Riche and Claire Labine thought it would be a good idea to put Sonny and Brenda together. The audience was all in,” Benard posted to Instagram with a photo of him and Vanessa Marcil as Brenda. (And a special song if you press play.)
“In the beginning I told my friend Vanessa it wasn’t working for me. She could’ve told me to go to hell, but she chose to work her ass off, because she was so determined. I was very proud of her and the rest, as they say in show business, ‘is history.'”
In the same Instagram post, he revealed a little more about his first year as Port Charles’ favorite mobster.
“When I started @generalhospitalabc, something happened and I couldn’t continue the show (more specifics in the book) If @wendyriche and @shelleylitvack didn’t hold my hand (literally), there never would’ve been the character of Sonny.”
Benard teased that there is more to both stories and much more about his life on General Hospital in his new book, Nothing General About It, which comes out April 7, 2020. (You can pre-order it here at Amazon. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
