Former General Hospital star John Stamos (ex-Blackie) is coming back to soaps — sort of. He has an exciting new project that fans will love.
Soap Hub reported that Stamos was developing a show and now, according to Deadline, it has a new home. The show will appear on Amazon and chronicles the life of an up-and-coming star in the ’80s. The series is inspired by Stamos’s own experiences when he shot to fame as Blackie Parrish on GH in 1982.
Back Story
The drama, described as “Boogie Nights in the soap world” is written by Adam Stein (Damages). It will tell the tale of an 18-year-old young man from Orange County, California who joins a Los Angeles-based soap and becomes a megastar within that world.
Stamos will serve as an executive producer on the show, along with Stein, Craig Zadan, and Neil Meron. The trio has previously teamed up to produce other projects including Beach Boys: An American Family as well as Martin and Lewis (a TV movie).
Blackie and Robin
A year ago, when news of Stamos’s project was first announced online fans noticed a similarity between this project and one being developed by Emmy winner Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin), who according to reports, had been developing a project with similar themes.
Sincerest Form Of Flattery
This isn’t to say that both projects couldn’t someday co-exist. Television has given us several versions of CSI and Law & Order, not to mention medical dramas like ER and Grey’s Anatomy. As long as each show is unique and told from different perspectives, there’s no reason that both series couldn’t be done.
