John Lindstrom Hints at Ryan’s Possible Return to GH

While killers abound in Port Charles, no one was deadlier than Ryan Chamberlain on General Hospital. Although killed in 1995, and then again in 2023, where he was seemingly gone for good, his portrayer Jon Lindstrom had other thoughts about the matter. 

No One Except Kevin Was Cryin’ For Ryan

Homicidal maniac Ryan Chamberlain plagued not only Felicia Scorpio (Kristina Wagner) and Ava Jerome (Maura West), but so many other women on GH, and was presumed dead after a carnival funhouse caught fire in 1995. But it turned out that his good twin, Dr. Kevin Collins, had learned Ryan was alive and kept him in an asylum in 2018 in a misguided attempt to cure his insane brother.

Ryan finally met his end after he and the deranged Heather Webber (Alley Mills) grabbed their daughter, Esme Prince (Avery Pohl), escaped from Pentonville Penitentiary, and went on the run. Acting police chief Mac Scorpio (John J. York) was the one who fired the bullet that killed Ryan, and he didn’t seem merely dead, he was most sincerely dead. (Learn more about evil Esme’s perfect parents.)

Despite Ryan’s extreme level of evil and murderous ways, Kevin mourned him…and was pretty much the only person who did. The yin and yang twins’ portrayer, Jon Lindstrom, spoke to Soaps She Knows to discuss his thoughts on the permanence of Ryan’s demise. When asked if Ryan was dead for real this time, the actor stated, “You know, I died 25 years ago, so I just don’t know. I mean, they kind of went out of their way to make sure [this time around] that we all saw him dead in the body bag. Kevin could see him, and Felicia could see him, and Mac could see him. We could all get our eyeballs on dead Ryan,” as did the audience.

But soap opera fans know that death isn’t the handicap it used to be, and with some creative writing, serial killer Ryan could once again rise from the proverbial ashes.

Was Ryan’s Dyin’ Just a Ruse?

Lindstrom continued, remarking, “Having said that, I don’t know how it could be done now, but if anything, daytime writers are an incredibly creative and resourceful bunch.” As many fans know, soaps have to be just as creative as comic books in order to stay relevant and keep the audience interested. Lindstrom further added, “So, if there’s a will, there will be a way. They will be able to figure that out. It won’t be up to me; I can tell you that.”

Ryan’s possible return could have a major impact on those he’s terrorized for decades. However, there was a point in time where Kevin thought he was Ryan, so the show could pull a bait-and-switch and make us think Ryan was back when in reality, it was Kevin who lost his marbles and believed he was the killer.

The burning and most important question that the outlet asked, though, was whether or not Lindstrom would be up for playing Kevin’s evil twin again, or has that ship sailed? To the fans’ delight, his response was, “If they want to, I can tell you that I would jump in right away.”
