Soon after General Hospital aired its 55th anniversary show on Friday, longtime cast member Kin Shriner took to social media with a shocker.
The actor, who’s been with the soap off and on for over 40 years, tweeted a cryptic post about his future with the show, indicating there will be no more Scott Baldwin! Fans instantly responded to the news!
Shriner announced on Twitter that “Scotty Baldwin Out. @GeneralHospital.”
The Emmy-nominated actor has since deleted a follow up tweet that confirmed that he was exiting the ABC soap. It read: “True Scott Baldwin Has Left The Building.”
Fans immediately interpreted this to indicate that the actor is leaving the show — not that Shriner had just wrapped at the studio for the week.
The actor’s co-star Jacklyn Zeman (Bobbie) tweeted her support for her pal and co-star. No further details have emerged since then. Shriner has been on recurring status with the soap for years and the show invites him back to appear as storylines dictate so it’s not as if he was released from a contract.
And even if he were, the show would consider him a recurring player. Making the situation even more mystifying is that Shriner did an #AskGH twitter chat that’s sanctioned by the show on Thursday, March 30th the day before his exit tweet.
At no point did Shriner indicate that a story was coming up that would be taking Scotty off the canvas. In fact, when asked what his favorite storyline was, Shriner said it was the one coming up. When another fan toasted to 40 more years, Shriner indicated that he would try.
The question is: what happened between his #AskGH session and the next day when he announced that he was out?
The actor did express his dismay that Scotty wasn’t featured in a recent promo clip honoring GH’s 55th anniversary, but in the anniversary episode on Friday, viewers saw a clip of Scotty and his father Lee (played by the late Peter Hansen) so the show gave him some kudos there.
Is Shriner really out at GH or was his post an early April Fool’s joke? Stay tuned. As information becomes available, Soap Hub will keep you updated.
