Impeachment Update: How To Watch Your MIA Soap Operas

The network coverage of the Impeachment Trial of President Donald J. Trump interrupted is into its second week and may not end by Friday as the president so hoped.

So far, we haven’t seen any General Hospital or The Bold and the Beautiful. Hopefully, CBS and ABC decide to change course and give us GH and BB rather than posting social media videos of actors promising us the show will be back. We’d like them back soon, please and thank you. The Interne and Hulu work well.

Days of Our Lives

One soap taking advantage of 2020 technology is Days of Our Lives. NBC has a regular policy of putting the soap online at night on NBC.com. Soap Hub already saw today’s episode and you can read a recap here. It’s another tearjerker you just can’t miss.

The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful

Like last Thursday and Friday, The Young and the Restless fans on the East Coast saw about 30-40 minutes of a new episode today. Even the West Coast got a little Genoa City action. Early in the afternoon, CBS once again used a cheerful Peter Bergman to tell fans in a tweet that YR can be seen on CBS.com and CBS All Access tonight.

And, for the first time in a week, BB aired on the West Coast, which means everyone gets to see it tonight on CBS.com and CBS All Access. That means just one more soap to go. We’re looking at you, General Hosptial. Come back.

General Hospital

According to ABC executive Nathan Varni, ABC has made a decision about whether it will keep delaying General Hospital through the length of the impeachment trial, and at this point, it will. This means you may not see your Port Charles pals for quite a while. We saw the episode that would have aired on Tuesday, so when you next see GH, it will be a doozy with a double shooting. ABC, please change course next week.

Soap operas began in the early 1900s, as radio broadcasts. Soap companies were behind the conception of the daytime dramas because they wanted to sell soaps to stay-at-home-moms. They did their job and also launched a lifelong programming format, the soap opera.

Spanning more than nine decades, American soap operas have seen the rise and fall of daytime soaps. In the heyday of soaps in the early 1980s, there were up to 13 different soap operas broadcast. However, over the years, the number has declined. Currently, there are only four American soap operas on the air.
