Impeachment Update: How To See Your Disrupted Soap Operas

Published by

The ongoing coverage of the Impeachment Trial of Donald J. Trump continued today, interrupting your soap operas in most time zones. However, you can still get your fix tonight for three of your soaps.

Days of Our Lives

As always, the show goes on for Days of Our Lives as NBC has a policy of putting DAYS on NBC.com and the DAYS App whenever there are preemptions. Soap Hub already saw today’s episode and you can catch a recap here. It’s definitely full of surprises as guilt catches up with one character.

The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful

The East Coast once again caught about 40 minutes of The Young and the Restless until the trial began, so CBS once again plans to put the soap on CBS.com and CBS All Access tonight. The show used Camryn Grimes (Mariah) to deliver this news via a tweet earlier on Wednesday.

The Bold and the Beautiful was completely preempted on both coasts as the trial got started right when BB would have begun on the East Coast and was not in recess for the West Coast airing. Therefore, CBS has chosen to push the entire episode back one day at the very least depending on what happens with news coverage tomorrow. Maybe we will see BB tomorrow, maybe we won’t.

General Hospital

Finally, General Hospital heeded our calls and frustrations for the second day in a row a new episode will air on ABC.com by 8 PM EST. It will also be available on Hulu.

Soap Hub has already seen the episode and there are some real shockers in this TRIPLE shooting. You can see a recap here. Thank you, GH, for acknowledging the Internet is a thing and we all know how to use it in 2020.

More on Soap Opera History

Soap opera began in the early 1900s, as radio broadcasts. Soap companies were behind the conception of the daytime dramas because they wanted to sell soaps to stay-at-home-moms. They did their job and also launched a lifelong programming format, the soap opera.

Spanning more than nine decades, American sudsers have seen the rise and fall of daytime soaps. In the heyday of soaps in the early 1980s, there were up to 13 different soap operas broadcast. However, over the years, the number has declined. Currently, there are only four American soap operas on the air. They include Days of our Lives, The Young and the Restless (YR), The Bold and the Beautiful (BB), and GH.
