Hey General Hospital: Sabrina, Hayden, and Dillon? We LIKED Them

General Hospital (GH) fans and Soap Hub are still reeling and perplexed over the latest loss of a popular actor and character.

We didn’t understand it a year ago when Sabrina (Teresa Castillo) was killed just as she found happiness with Michael (Chad Duell). She was a character we all loved, played by a popular actress, and people were really pulling for her and Michael.

Her brutal murder and Michael’s simple recovery were not fun to see — and Michael and Nelle (Chloe Lanier) are definitely not the most popular pair.

It eventually seemed clear that GH killed Sabrina so Michael could be with Nelle, but he was already in a popular coupling, so why did he need a new one–that honestly just doesn’t work?

Then, last month we learned Rebecca Budig was let go as Hayden and that character was forced to skip town just as she found happiness, as well.

Budig was also a popular ABC actress, having made a name for herself as Greenlee on All My Children, and after two years, Hayden became a very likable flawed heroine. Yet, like Sabrina, we had to lose her.

Now, we learn that forever good-guy Dillon Quartermaine will soon be gone as actor Robert Palmer Watkins has been fired after two years in the role. Again, he’s part of a popular pair GH decided to go nowhere with, and like Finn, poor Kiki might be left in limbo.

(We are waiting for the other shoe to drop and learn Hayley Erin is going too. After this past year, it wouldn’t surprise us, although we wouldn’t like it.)

So, what gives, GH? Do you not know when you’ve created likable characters with likable actors? Does it need to be spelled out? We like them, we really like them. And then we have to lose them. And watch Michael and Nelle.

We don’t get it, so maybe someone could explain it to us. Sure, actors and characters come and go on soaps, but this trifecta in one year leaves us scratching our heads.
