Helena Mattsson Steps In As Sasha for Sister Sofia Mattsson on GH

Helena is coming to General Hospital but we’re not talking about Helena Cassadine! Actress Helena Mattsson is stepping in for her sister Sofia Mattsson temporarily as Sasha Gilmore.

Helena Mattsson Checks Into GH

Soap Opera Digest first reported that Sofia’s sister Helena would be taking over her role as Sasha for a few episodes, starting Thursday, February 17. Helena is also an actress whose credits include Desperate Housewives, The Rookie, Mistresses, and Paper Empire.

No word on why the sibling switcheroo is taking place or exactly how long it will last but GH has been doing some temporary recasts as of late to keep production rolling when actors are unavailable to work. Most recently, Lindsay Hartley stepped in as Samantha McCall when Kelly Monaco missed a few shows.

Last year, Sofia Mattsson broke viewers hearts in the touching storyline in which Sasha and Brando (Johnny Wactor) made the heartbreaking decision to take their newborn Liam Michael off life-support as his prognosis for any kind of quality of life was not good.

The 411 on Helena Mattsson

Helena Mattsson was born in Stockholm, Sweden where she was raised. She began modeling as a teenager and graduated from the Performing Arts High School in Stockholm. Next, she traveled to both London and New York where she continued to hone her acting craft. She got her big break when she was 19 years and was cast as the character of Lena in the film Sweden, Ohio in 2004. And now, the actress is adding a daytime drama to her resume as she joins the General Hospital family. The two also have a luxury vegan fashion business together called Ava Carrington.
