Gone Too Soon: Will General Hospital Fans Miss Lulu?

She should have been General Hospital royalty, the daughter of daytime drama’s signature couple, Luke and Laura, whose wedding proved the most-watched episode of all time.

Yet, recently, it seemed that the show didn’t know what to do with Lulu Spencer (Emme Rylan). She floundered after the departure of her husband, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna). He’s recently returned, setting the stage for a love triangle with his and Lulu’s latest lover, Dustin (Mark Lawson).

But then, in a single explosion, Dustin was killed, and Lulu was injured so badly (though on a time delay) that she landed in a coma doctors don’t ever expect her to recover from. So, off Lulu goes to a treatment facility… someplace else? How do fans feel about the departure? We heard from over 2,000 fans:

Pointless

Why bring back Dante if you were going to write off Lulu, a majority 70% wonder. And if you absolutely had to, why not write the couple off together, give them the happily ever after the fans wanted and deserved? We were all set for a juicy love triangle, and you went ahead and blew it all up… literally. We feel cheated. And confused. Are we supposed to watch Dante get involved with someone else now?

Short Term

We’re OK, a smaller but more pragmatic 30% of the audience counters. Because we know she’ll be back. You can’t really tell a story in Port Charles without Lulu. She’s too connected to the canvas. Her mother is the mayor! She has a child with Dante – Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) grandchild, no less – and another with Valentin (James Patrick Stuart)!

She’s pals with Maxie (Kirsten Storms), and a job covering the crimes of Port Charles (save Sonny’s). This version of Lulu arrived on ice. She’s leaving more or less the same way.
