Gio and Emma’s little New York getaway on General Hospital already felt like the kind of soap romance montage that usually ends with either a lifelong love story or somebody getting emotionally obliterated six months later. Between the Aladdin crossover, the growing closeness, and the first kiss finally happening after all that slow-burn buildup, “Gemma” officially crossed into supercouple territory. But now Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner are thinking a lot bigger than romantic Broadway weekends, because the future they pitched for Gio and Emma sounds less like a sweet young romance and more like a very attractive international incident.

Key Takeaways

  • Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner want Gio and Emma pulled into a dangerous WSB storyline.
  • Bruner pitched Emma secretly joining the WSB to destroy it from within.
  • Mazza imagined Gio joining the mob while Emma worked covertly against him.
  • The actors compared their idea to a Mr. and Mrs. Smith-style romance.
  • Emma’s WSB connection would fit her Scorpio-Drake family history.
  • Gio drifting toward Sonny’s world could create major trouble for the couple.

Giovanni Mazza and Braedyn Bruner Want Chaos for Gio and Emma

Mazza and Bruner spoke to Swooon about where they would like the relationship to go next, and somehow the conversation escalated from romance to espionage remarkably fast. Bruner revealed, “Personally, for Emma, I would like to see her join the WSB just to secretly destroy the WSB.” Honestly, considering how much damage the organization has caused half the families in Port Charles lately, Emma Scorpio-Drake quietly infiltrating it out of generational frustration actually tracks pretty well.

Bruner also admitted she wanted the couple pulled into “some sort of dangerous adventure,” which immediately sent Mazza into full soap brainstorm mode. “Frank [Valentini], if you’re watching, please listen to this,” he joked before pitching a storyline where Emma joined the WSB while Gio secretly joined the mob. Neither of them would know the other crossed over to the opposite side until they literally ran into each other during a mission.

And somehow, the pitch only became more chaotic from there. “I have an assignment to kill you,” Mazza imagined Gio saying, while Emma realizes she has the exact same assignment. Bruner jumped in with, “But we can’t do it,” and honestly, that right there is the exact kind of absurdly dramatic energy soap fans tend to eat alive with a spoon.

GH May Already Be Pointing Emma Toward the WSB

The funny thing is that this idea does not even feel completely random anymore. Joss (Eden McCoy) is already tangled up in WSB business, Jason’s (Steve Burton) constantly orbiting covert operations, whether he likes it or not, and Anna (Finola Hughes) practically carries enough spy history to qualify as a classified document. Emma getting pulled into that world feels completely believable for a Scorpio-Drake.

At the same time, Gio drifting toward mob territory would fit GH almost too perfectly. The kid’s already standing in Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) orbit, whether anybody openly says it or not. Port Charles has a habit of slowly dragging younger characters into the same cycles as the older generation, especially once romance gets involved and everybody starts keeping secrets “for protection.”

And honestly, the Mr. and Mrs. Smith angle might be exactly the kind of weird swing this pairing needs long term. The New York romance stuff worked because it gave Gio and Emma softness. Throwing them into danger together would test whether the chemistry survives once the fairy lights come down and the bullets start flying. On this show, that’s usually where the real supercouples begin.
