Lisa LoCicero never got to work with her TV grandmother-in-law, the late, great Anna Lee, who played Lila Quartermaine on General Hospital. Fortunately, the actress has a family matriarch with her real-life grandmother whom she recently had a conversation with on the secret to longevity.
“This is my Grandma Gene, 99-years-old, Eugenia de Santi,” LoCicero shared on her social media accounts. Turning to Grandma Gene, the actress said that she’d been asking her what her secret to being “99, sharp as a tack,” and someone who “drives [her] own car, bowls at the yacht club.”
Grandma Gene replied by saying that there was no secret but she credits her longevity to being fiercely independent. “I do what I do when I want to do it [and] how I want to do it,” Gene says. “I eat what I want to eat when I want to eat. I go where I want to go. I do whatever I please [and have]…my whole life – my way.”
Grandma Gene is a hit with both LoCicero’s daytime pals and her followers. Noting that she does things her way, Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos) remarked that she’s just “Like Frank Sinatra,” followed by three heart emojis. “I love her!” exclaimed Jessica Collins (ex-Avery, The Young and the Restless; ex-Dinah Lee, Loving). As soap fans know, Lisa LoCicero got her daytime start also on Loving as Jocelyn.
Lisa LoCicero’s devotion to her grandmother touched the hearts of her followers, who weighed in with memories of their own loved ones on Twitter. “Where does she live and why have you never brought her to fan events?!?! She’d be the star attraction!!!” exclaims Eric Ackerman (@ackgh73994). “Such a blessing! My grandma is 91 and is the same as your Grandma Gene, sharp as a tack! They don’t make them like that anymore,” shared Alissa Garcia Lizard (@alizzard75)
“Preach it. Sound so fierce and direct. I do what I want to do when I want to do it. Eat what I want to eat when I want to eat. Go where I want to go when I want to go. Do as I please in life. My way. Great lesson #1. No stress Love it You go on fabulous. God bless,” posted Dwayne Neil (@DDub6986).
“You’re so lucky to have her still with you. I still have my gramps who’ll be 103 in March and he’s still [the] same silly old man I talk to every night who remembers everything and will still tell me stories of way back,” says Erin Miller (@Mrs_Miller0117). “He’s the only one I have left. Treasure your old people folks!”
The best news is that Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) says that there will be more to come from Grandma Gene! “That’s Lesson No. 1,” the actress shared with her followers but she encourages folks to check back in with her soon. “We’re going to have more lessons from Grandma Gene as we go along.” Bonus! Grandma Gene has been a GH watcher since its 1963 premiere!
