In a savvy casting movie, General Hospital reached out last year to Kim Delaney, beloved as Jenny on All My Children, when the show was looking to recast Jackie Templeton — the intrepid reporter played in the early 1980s by Demi Moore. Delaney brought the character back to Port Charles and has now been nominated in the category of Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series.
Kim Delaney Talks Daytime Emmys
This isn’t Delaney’s first trip to the Daytime Emmys. In 1983, she was nominated for playing Jenny in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Soap Hub chatted with the primetime Emmy winner about this current nod. Read on to get her thoughts!
Soap Hub: Congratulations! How did you find out you were nominated?
Kim Delaney: Frank Valentini [executive producer] called me. I was surprised and very honored.
All the voting’s completed; can you talk about what’s on your reel?
Yes. One of the scenes on it is with Michael Easton [Finn] when we’re discussing how we were together the night before I married his father [Gregory, played by Gregory Harrison]. Jackie had known him for years from doing a story about him.
GH did extremely well with so many nominations; how does it feel to have so many co-stars also nominated?
I’m very happy for everyone. We have a tremendous cast. It’s a great group of people.
Have ever met your fellow nominees (who are on other shows) and are you familiar with their work?
I don’t think I’ve met them. Yes, I’m familiar with their work.
People gathered at a studio in Burbank earlier this month to tape parts of the awards show. How does it feel to have things be a bit more interactive?
We’re in a new time where everything is more virtual. There are so many Zooms for business meetings. It’ll be interesting to see where we go as we come out of COVID this past year.
The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards air tonight, Friday, June 25 at 8 p.m. on CBS. The program will also be streaming on Paramount+ and CBS.com General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
