Briana Lane was recently reunited with her former General Hospital co-stars when actors from the show gathered in Burbank to pre-tape parts of the Daytime Emmy broadcast set for this Friday.
Briana Lane — Daytime Emmy Nominee
Soap Hub chatted with the actress about her nod in the category of Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series, which she received for stepping in as Brook Lynn while Amanda Setton was on maternity leave last year.
Soap Hub: Congratulations! How did you find out you were nominated?
Briana Lane: I was jet-lagged from landing from Hawaii the night before so I was still sleeping when results came in! I woke up at around 9:20 a.m. and my phone was flooded with texts and alerts! Was a pretty cool way to wake up!
How did you come to submit in the Guest Actor category?
It was something that kept getting suggested to me but I was not planning on it. When Frank [Valentini, executive producer] said it was a great idea, I went with it!
What scenes/co-stars are on your reel?
There are some hospital scenes with the characters of Olivia [Lisa LoCicero], Ned [Wally Kurth], and Sonny [Maurice Benard], and then the rest are scenes with Ned.
You received such positive responses to your run as Brook Lynn online from fans and now, from your fellow actors; how does it feel?
Oh, man! It feels so validating and appreciated. I didn’t know what to expect joining a soap for the first time and especially stepping in for the powerhouse talent that is Amanda Setton. I definitely felt nervous at first but after some time, the fans started to warm up and I could not have expected such a wonderful response. Their feedback online was so validating and definitely gave me more confidence as I went on!
Are you familiar with your competition? Kim Delaney (Jackie), George DelHoyo (Orpheus, Days of our Lives), Cady McClain (Jennifer, DAYS), and Victoria Platt (Amanda, DAYS).
I am! I’ve seen Kim’s work over the years [including on] NYPD Blue!! She’s incredible on GH! Cady is wonderful — I just met her on a Zoom interview…and she could not be sweeter!
Do you have a gown? A speech?
Yes! Both! Katelyn [MacMullen, who plays Willow] and I got fitted for dresses together and I have finally narrowed mine down. Speech is ready to go — I have to memorize something before the event as I’m sure my nerves will be all over the place.
How does it feel that your ex-TV dad Wally Kurth was nominated (for DAYS as Justin) and all your GH co-stars getting nods?
So happy! His nomination is so well deserved! It was such a gift to be able to work alongside Wally. Not only is he undeniably talented, but he is also incredibly kind and generous. His performances on GH this past year were so moving so I can only imagine what he did on DAYS! Oh, the level of talent on GH is just insane! I’m not surprised that so many of the cast received nominations (and the show as a whole too)! I felt so lucky to have been surrounded by such a dedicated and gifted group of people.
What’s keeping you busy now and are you open to doing another daytime role either a new part on GH or another soap opera?
I just did an Apple TV show, working on a ton of music, and yes, I would join another soap in a heartbeat!
The 48th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards air on Friday, June 25 at 8 p.m. on CBS. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
