Who’s coming and who’s going from General Hospital (GH)? Are any of your favorite performers from yesteryear returning to the daytime drama, this week, or in the not-too-far-off future?
General Hospital C&G News
Have any new actors or actresses been cast on the show in contract, recurring, or day-player roles? Are any well-remembered or beloved stars from other soaps, past or present, about to join the General Hospital fold in surprise new parts? Here’s the latest casting news from the ABC soap.
The week of December 5, 2022
Finola Hughes, whose Anna Devane has been on the run since being falsely accused of Lucy Coe’s (Lynn Herring) murder, set the record straight about her status with the soap. “I am absolutely not on a scheduled break at all,” said the actress on Twitter in response to a user who reported that she was.
Although Hughes regularly took a vacation every year pre-pandemic, that is no longer the case. “Just to be clear, since COVID 2020, I have had no scheduled breaks as it is imperative to be available in case there are changes at work,” explained Hughes. “I had one week off this September.” Hence, viewers can look forward to this story playing out in the weeks ahead.
Meanwhile, Emma Samms wrapped up her stint as Holly Sutton. Although the character was made to look as if she died in a fiery explosion, it was an undercover scheme to get her away from Victor Cassadine (Charles Shaughnessy). Holly slipped out of town to search for her abducted son, Ethan Lovett (Nathan Parsons), and could return to the show on another date.
General Hospital History
GH made its debut in 1963 and was created by the husband and wife team of Frank and Doris Hursley, taking place at a hospital in an unnamed city. In fact, the setting wasn’t named Port Charles until the 1970s. General Hospital is the longest-running soap opera currently on air.
From legendary Laura’s (Genie Francis) four decades on and off and back on as the show’s leading heroine, to Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) exploits, to Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and his mobster activities, GH certainly knows how to please their viewers.
