If the chemistry between actors James Patrick Stuart and Michael E. Knight makes it feel like Valentin and Martin have been bickering forever, that’s because they practically have. Except it wasn’t on General Hospital and in Port Charles. It was on All My Children and in Pine Valley.
Go Back In Time With General Hospital Stars
Once upon a time, Stuart played Will Cortlandt and Knight played Tad ‘The Cad’ Martin, a character he brought to life until 2011. By the early 90s, Tad was a good guy and fell in love with Dixie Cooney (Cady McClain, now Jennifer on Days of Our Lives) and Will was Dixie’s good guy turned bad guy brother who eventually met an untimely demise.
During all of that, a very famous and influential lady remained a fan of the pair and All My Children in general, a soap that looks like it will be getting a third lease on life on ABC, but this time in primetime. That influential lady was none other than the United States First Lady at the time, Barbara Bush, wife of the 41st President George H.W. Bush.
Stuart took us on a flashback to that time yesterday with a very memorable photo on Instagram. “Christmas at the White House in 1990,” wrote Stuart. “Michael Knight and I were invited by then-First Lady Barbara Bush (a big All My Children fan).”
Holiday time means holiday parties at the White House in which the president and first lady usually put in a brief appearance, shake guests’ hands, and pose for pictures. (Although public health experts advised the White House not to do that this year, President Trump is ignoring those guidelines, with various parties planned. We hope people stay masked and socially distanced for their own sake.)
As for our two fan-favorite soap stars who attended this event three decades ago as Pine Valley residents? This week Valentin forgave Martin for what he considers poor behavior aftr Martin admitted drug kingpin Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) is his brother. It also turns out Martin and Cyrus are Laura’s brothers, so things are about to get interesting indeed. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
