Réal Andrews’ son Marcus may not be following in his acting footsteps, but he is taking a page from the General Hospital star’s character’s career choice.

The actor took to social media to announce that his son is starting the Police academy, and the man behind Lieutenant Marcus Taggert couldn’t be happier.

“So Proud of my Son Marcus he had a dream to serve by becoming a Police 👮‍ Officer and today he made that dream a reality,” he posted to Instagram, including a photo of his son getting ready to don the blue. “Today is day #1 as a Police Cadet at the Academy…I love you so much Son Mom and I are so so proud of you.”

Andrews hasn’t been on the show for a bit, with Asante Jones taking over the role in December for a short while, but he has a long history in Port Charles and recently announced on his Instagram that he would be returning very soon.

He first appeared on GH’s canvas back in 1997 and was on and off until 2003, battling with Sonny, his long-time nemesis from their younger days. Andrews brought the character back in January of 2020, only to be apparently killed soon after, though it was eventually revealed that he had faked his own death as a way to keep his daughter safe from Cyrus’s wrath.

Jones actually got to play the scenes where his daughter Trina learned her dad was really alive, which was somewhat a disappointment for fans who had looked forward to the reunion. But according to Andrews’ own Instagram spoilers, a major storyline for his character is underway, and he should have plenty of good scenes with Sydney Mikayla’s Trina ahead.

When Andrews does return, which will probably be this month, some fans are speculating that Taggert will be the one to find Sonny, because the karma and storyline possibilities seem too good to pass up. Plus, he still needs to do something about Cyrus. We look forward to seeing what’s ahead. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
