Fans were surprised when they learned Réal Andrews would be taking a break from General Hospital and Asante Jones would be temporarily stepping into the role of Marcus Taggert.

Update On Réal Andrews

When Asante aired last week, rumors truly flew into high gear about Andrews’s health, with speculation that bad health was the reason he took some time off from the GH set. Last year, Andrews underwent surgery for prostate cancer before returning to the Port Charles fold as the cop from Bensonhurst who made forever frenemy in mobster, Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard). He also revealed he had been suffering from bipolar, something he has in common with Benard.

Now, Andrews wants to set the record straight and he did so with an Instagram video featuring himself and his pooch, Diamond.

“There’s been a lot of speculation, a lot of rumors going around about my health,” Andrew said as Diamond lounged lovingly by his side. “First and foremost, I just got my results back from my one-year check and I am very happy. I’m absolutely cancer-free and probably in the best shape of my life.

“So, I appreciate all your prayers and support. I just didn’t want all these rumors going sideways and stuff. I’m very happy and in good hands. God’s got me.”

It was a very welcome and pleasant surprise to see Andrews pop up on our GH screens early this year and we were thrilled to learn that Josslyn’s (Eden McCoy) BFF, Trina (Sydney Mikayla), was his daughter. He seemed to be killed off soon after but made a reappearance when we learned Taggert had faked his death to protect Trina from Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
