General Hospital fans did a double-take on Monday when a doctor appeared beside Sam and he turned out to be her brother, Lucas. However, he sure didn’t look like the Lucas we last saw before the coronavirus hiatus. And that is because it looks like Ryan Carnes is out and Matt Trudeau is in.

Matt Trudeau As Lucas Jones

According to Daytime Confidential, this is NOT a temporary recast as was the case with Lindsay Hartley as Sam and Briana Lane as Brook Lynn. It looks like this new Lucas is here to stay. According to IMDB, Trudeau’s other acting credits include Chicago Fire and Detroit 1-8-7.

So, does this mean that we will soon see Lucas in a new story? His husband Brad (Parry Shen) is now in prison, but that marriage had come to an end anyway when Lucas learned Brad had been passing off Michael’s (Chad Duell) son as their adopted son for well over a year. While Lucas was heartbroken to lose his family, his morals told him ending his relationship with Brad was the right thing to do.

That doesn’t mean this character should be relegated to the backburner as we watched him grow up on screen played by several actors along the way. Lucas is the adopted son of Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman) and Tony (Brad Maule), but the biological son of Julian Jerome and Cheryl Stansbury. With William deVry’s Julian leaving the show soon, does that mean Julian may perish and Lucas will appear again to mourn his dad?

Whatever happens, we’ll be happy to see what comes next for this beloved character and we hope it involves a brand-new romance that could be complicated if Brad is released from prison early. (That seems to often happen in Port Charles). General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
