General Hospital Superstar Vanessa Marcil Gives a Brenda Barrett Update!

To the plentiful and passionate fans of “General Hospital” favorite Brenda Barrett, we have a message for you–you may now exhale!

“I’ve always…known where she was off to after the last scene…so Brenda’s totally alive and well in my heart too,” actress Vanessa Marcil said in the June 20 issue of ABC Soaps in Depth.

“GH was my first job, and I was devastated when I left,” Marcil told In Depth. “I just knew that I needed to challenge myself. I literally think about Brenda all the time.”

The actress remains thankful for the ongoing affection fans have for Brenda and how they’ve supported her work since she last left the show.

Marcil originated the role of petite model Brenda Barrett in 1992. Many feel Brenda is the true love of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) life, as well as the one that got away for Jax (Ingo Rademacher). Marcil continued appearing on GH on and off till 2013.

Life since leaving GH has kept Marcil busy. She’s been raising her now-teenage son Kassius and told In Depth, “He’s a musical theater geek–I’m so proud!”

The actress also supports several charitable endeavors, including Sojourn Services, N’Kosi’s Haven, amFAR (The American Foundation for AIDS Research), and LifeRide.

Marcil won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series in 2003. She was also nominated two other times.

Look for Marcil in the Hallmark Channel’s “The Convenient Groom” on June 18th. She plays a doctor and relationship expert, which suits well the actress’ personal “obsession” with psychology.
