On General Hospital, he’s the deadpan comic relief viewers have come to love, but Parry Shen (Brad) was close to some real-life drama. The actor took to social media to post his ties to the latest school shooting that have become, tragically, far too common in the United States.
According to published reports, a shooting took place at Saugus High School in California on Thursday morning that left two students dead and three wounded. The shooter fired during a 15-second period at approximately 7:30 a.m. before all the pupils had arrived at school.
The shooter, a 16-year-old student, was found on campus with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. At press time, he was in grave condition. A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy died after being taken to a local hospital. Two other students are being treated for their injuries. A third student has already been released.
Shen took to social media to share his connection to the shooting. “A friend and co-star that I’ve done many films with, her daughter, was one of the ones shot,” the GH star shared on Instagram.
“Thankfully, she should be okay. There are no words. When these shootings happen, the arguments about gun control and mental health on both sides come and go — then are only brought up again during the next shooting. I don’t know what the solution is. These kids should feel safe being in school — in a place where they’re truly starting their lives and figuring out who they are.”
One other GH star posted on their personal Facebook page (and not on a public one, so Soap Hub is not identifying the performer) that their children were not in school yet when the shooting took place.
