General Hospital Star Maurice Benard’s New Look Is A Fan Hit

To have a beard or not to have a beard has been a question General Hospital star Maurice Benard has been asking for several years — and typically he asks his fans to help him decide what to do.

Maurice Benard Makes A Change

In 2015, he even had a beard on-screen after Sonny was shot and left paralyzed. Sonny’s emotional and physical state kept him from shaving for a while and eventually, the beard became a part of him. It was shocking when about six months into having it, both Benard and Sonny shaved it off.

And just about a year ago, the actor once again grew a beard during some time off, but that beard never ended up becoming part of Sonny’s life. Now, the actor has been off-set both due to the holidays and Sonny’s story and has once again grown a beard — and changed his whole look.

A gray beard and a shock of silver hair have fans going wild and we wonder if Sonny will eventually have a different look once he makes his way back to Port Charles. (Right now, he still looks like his old self after Mike’s [Max Gail] spirit convinced a very-confused Sonny to live.)

In a New Year’s post earlier this month, the actor wished his fans a fabulous 2021 and asked the ultimate question at the end:

“2020 was the year of highs and lows. Believe it or not, I’ve learned so much from this year, I learned we can face anything in life as long as we keep moving forward. 2021 Will be the year of change, compassion, growth, Love and kindness. HAPPY NEW YEAR. Beard/No beard?”

Well, the results are in and it seems fans love the beard, with several comments calling him a silver fox. Benard told fans on Sunday that the beard won in a landslide, quipping: “So that pretty much says to me I look pretty bad without a beard?”
