General Hospital star Maurice Benard continues to give us small previews from his book, Nothing General About It, coming out this spring.
A Fateful General Hospital Audition
On Monday, he took to Instagram to tell us about the first time Dominic Zamprogna appeared at the GH studio for his screentest. The actor made quite an impression on the veterans, especially Benard, who just knew he’d found the person they were looking for.
“NOTHING GENERAL ABOUT. DOM. Dom came in to audition for @generalhospitalabc. When he left the room there was no doubt he got the role as Sonny’s son. We were blown away!!! #son #family #actor #nothinggeneralaboutit #mentalhealth #bookstagram #harpercollins.” Benard wrote next to a photo of himself and Zamprogna.
In recent months, Benard has also given us little tidbits about when he first met other actors who created characters in Sonny’s life. He told us how he didn’t get along with both Laura Wright (Carly) and Vanessa Marcil (Brenda) in the beginning. And last week we learned that Lisa LoCicero originally auditioned for the role of Connie/Kate and Olivia was created just for her after casting directors fell in love.
As for Zamprogna, he’s no longer Dante, but that doesn’t mean he’s not much-missed. In fact, some fans are clamoring for his return, believing there’s nobody else meant to be with Lulu. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
