Mark Lawson’s Dustin was one of the casualties from the bomb explosion at the Floating Rib on General Hospital. Now, the actor is reaching out to his fans, expressing gratitude for the experience he had on GH.
“Actors know this moment is bittersweet,” said Lawson in an Instagram post. “Job well done, but leaving a set full of like-minded, inspired people. Playing Dustin was a joy. Every day on set was a gift, as were @emmerylan @kirstenstorms @briana.lane @thedominator1979 @wes_ramsey @locicero_lisa @mauricebenard @bfordanderson. (And others that don’t have social media!) #anactorslife #anactortrains #staysoapy #soapopera #soapactor.”
The actor first made the GH scene in July 2019. “Thank you @generalhospitalabc,” the actor added. “Honored to be part of television history not only on this show but to be among the first actors back to work in town post-Covid. The set always felt safe, and I was proud to be in front of the camera in such a strange time. Thank you for everything. Stay soapy.”
While Lulu (Emme Rylan) emerged mostly unscathed, physically, at least, from the bomb explosion, Dustin wasn’t so fortunate. He was taken to GH and lived long enough to urge Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) to be there for Lulu. Next, Dustin appeared to go into cardiac arrest. Dr. Robinson (Brook Kerr) failed to revive him. Alas, Dante told a devastated Lulu and Laura (Genie Francis) that Dustin had died.
“Anybody who follows me for my thoughts or shared interest in horror, I hope you’ll give today’s episode of #GeneralHospital a watch,” Lawson tweeted. “I really wanted THAT scene to hit in a way that isn’t pretty or clean. Those are the moments in some of my favored genre films that stick with me.
“I wanted you to see Dustin fighting to get back to Lulu, or at the very least make Dante swear the oath to be there for her,” the actor added in a follow-up tweet. “It was [born out] of Dustin’s devout chivalry, and my own need to make it uncomfortable for the viewer. You watch to have an experience, right?!”
Lawson’s former GH co-stars posted words of support. “❤️❤️❤️!!” wrote Briana Lane, who recently wrapped up her run on GH as Brook Lynn. Parry Shen (Brad) wrote: “Kick-ass, run! Glad we were able to get to know each other through this. 👊.”
As Dustin expired on-screen a return isn’t likely. However, one fan, @charles_said, put forth an interesting idea: “Plot twist, Lulu leaves town comes back to town with Dustin look-alike named Brody😉😂👮🏼♂️ #Crossover #GH #OLTL #DanteDanteDante.”
As Lawson’s fans recall, the actor played the part of Brody Lovett on One Life to Live from 2008 until the series finale in early 2012. Check out Lawson’s Instagram post and tweets below. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
