It may feel like Laura Wright has always played Carly, but she is actually the fourth actress to portray Barbara Jean “Bobbie” Spencer’s oldest child. And now the Daytime Emmy winner is celebrating a major milestone — it was 15 years ago today that she debuted on that train, bringing the popular character back to the Port Charles canvas in a powerful way.
The ABC soap and the actress herself marked the occasion on social media about that special day in 2005 when the character returned to rock everyone’s world, making sure nothing would ever be the same.
“.@lldubs took over the role of Carly Corinthos on this day in 2005,” wrote the official Twitter account for General Hospital. “Please help us congratulate her on 15 years of amazing work. Port Charles wouldn’t be the same without her. #GeneralHospital #GH” Wright herself responded to their post with prayer emojis and saying, “Thank you.”
But she also did her own post on her own Instagram account in which she shared a video of her debut. “15 yrs ago today !!!! Ohh it’s been one hell of a ride,” gushed the actress.
“Big love to all the GH Fans who welcomed me and support Carlys World – I LOVE her so so much. I’m so grateful to play in Port Charles with The cast and crew of GH. They truly are my family ❤️❤️ #15yrs #CarlysWorld #GHBaby #Caroline #4 #15moreBaby xo.”
While Carly had relationships already established with the major men in her life — Sonny (Maurice Benard) and Jason (Steve Burton) — by the time Wright took on the role, she was the one to establish a love relationship with Ingo Rademacher’s Jasper Jacks and the two have a daughter, Joss (Eden McCoy).
Brenda (Vanessa Marcil) was long ago established as a rival to Carly but it’s the twisted bond with Nelle (Chloe Lanier) that has been riveting fans in recent years. No matter who she goes up against, Wright thrills her fans with her portrayal. Soap Hub congratulates the actress on her 15 years and looks forward to many more. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
