The Internet and social media can be an amazing tool of good when it wants to be. Such was the case when a fan shared the quick snip of General Hospital star Kathleen Gati in her first big-screen role with the actress — and it spurred a bittersweet memory for her.
The clip is from the 1981 thriller Ms .45, about a timid and mute seamstress who sought revenge for being raped by randomly shooting men with a .45 caliber pistol, and the moment of Gati walking by onscreen was shared by David Thielen on Twitter. The video sparked a memory for the actress.
“OMG! My very first role! Mom was visiting her ‘aspiring actress’ daughter in NYC. We went to see #Ms45 in a big Times Square theater. When I crossed the screen, Mom proudly exclaimed in her thick Hungarian accent ‘Kati, datz YOU!’ Sadly she never got to see any of my success,” she said, along with a crying face emoji.
Soap Hub would beg to differ since her mother did get to sit in a theater and see her daughter on the big screen. She may not have seen all of her future success, but she certainly got to see that she was well on her way — and that’s an incredible gift.
Speaking of her successful career, Gati’s GH character Liesl is front and center right now as she’s the latest casualty of Peter’s (Wes Ramsey) machinations. He set her up to take the blame for his crimes, but hopefully, she won’t sit in a cell for long.
Franco (Roger Howarth) doesn’t believe she’s guilty and he’s on the case. If only her family could believe in her as strongly. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
