For fans worried that Soap Hub’s news yesterday about James Patrick Stuart being cast in a new Disney pilot would mean the end of his time as Valentin Cassadine, it appears their concern may be for naught.
Stuart took to Twitter to address his good news and offer GH fans hope that it wouldn’t impact his daytime role too much. “I am currently working on a Disney Channel comedy pilot,” he confirmed on his Twitter post. “We film 15 minutes from the GH stage so, should the show get picked up for series, and while it would create scheduling headaches for some very cool people, I have no plans to hang up Valentin’s dancing shoes any time soon.”
Considering the Walt Disney Company is the parent company of both ABC and the Disney Channel, there’s no reason to believe that the fan-favorite won’t be allowed to appear in both shows simultaneously. The Disney pilot, which Deadline first revealed, is called Amy from Amarillo, and stars Finding Alice’s Isabella Pappas in the title role. The cast also includes Lucy Davis (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Patricia Belcher (Bones), Kayden Muller Janssen (Spies: Room of Secrets), Malachi Barton, and Reed Horstmann (The Expanding Universe of Ashley Garcia).
The plot of the Disney pilot revolves around a family of super-villains who must hide out in Amarillo, Texas, but when they meet up with the League of Villains, they learn they may be liquidated. Amy therefore must live life as a normal tween.
No details have emerged on who Stuart is playing, or even if it’s a series regular part, but judging by his Tweet, it does sound like he’s making plans for a full-time role. Theoretically, Stuart could be Amy’s dad or someone she encounters in school. Amy From Amarillo is written and will be executive produced by Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore, with production set to begin on the pilot soon.
With Valentin’s story heating up on GH, with Brook Lynn tricking him into thinking he’s the father of her unborn baby as the Quartermaines look to take back control of ELQ, Stuart can call on that villainous trait he needs for his new show as well to get revenge somewhere down the line. General Hospital (GH) airs weekdays on ABC. Check your local listings for airtimes.
