Fans love to see Tracy come back to Port Charles — and they hate to see her portrayer, Jane Elliot, leave when her General Hospital return visits conclude. Are viewers headed for another visit from Tracy? It sure sounds that way!
Welcome Back, Jane Elliot
The latest issue of Soap Opera Digest, dated November 30, reports that Elliot is coming back to GH. “I’m working with bestie and human hurricane again, Jane Elliot,” Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis) tweeted on November 5.
Diehard GH fans recall Elliot’s debut on GH back in 1978 when the actress came onto the show as Tracy Angelica Quartermaine, the spoiled, willful daughter of Edward (David Lewis) and Lila (Anna Lee) and the sister of Alan (Stuart Damon).
Tracy ingratiated herself into the General Hospital scene courtesy of her doing some fundraising for the hospital. On the romantic front, she set her sights on assistant district attorney Mitch Williams (Chris Pennock) and helped him get elected to the state senate.
Poor Tracy winced in pain when she walked in on Mitch when he was in bed with Susan Moore (Gail Ramsey). The Quartermaine heiress didn’t exactly make friends with newlyweds Alan and Monica (Leslie Charleson), either.
While ultimately incorrect, Tracy speculated that A.J. (Sean Kanan) had actually been fathered by Rick Webber (Chris Robinson) as he and Monica hooked up one night when she and Alan were estranged. Later, Alan explained to everyone that while he and Monica both had Type-O blood, A.J. had Type B because the rare Bombay Phenotype Syndrome had occurred.
Perhaps Tracy’s most memorable moment on the show was when Edward demanded that she change her manipulative ways. The Quartermaine patriarch faked a heart attack, but it was actually a test for Tracy; she refused to hand him his heart medication until Edward ripped up a document that cut her out of his will. Tracy got the shock of her life after she thought Edward had died when he stood up and put his hands on her shoulders, scaring her half to death!
Edward signed the new will. Tracy was banished and stayed away from Port Charles and General Hospital for several years but Elliot exited with a parting gift — the 1980 Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
Jane Elliot went on to play roles on other series, including Knots Landing (Judy Trent), Guiding Light (as Carrie Todd Marler), All My Children (as Cynthia Courtlandt), and Days of Our Lives (Anjelica Deveraux). What’s bringing Tracy back to the GH canvas this time? Stay tuned to find out! General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC. Check local listings for air times.
