General Hospital Recap: When Luke Spencer Killed His Parents

The General Hospital recap for Friday May 22, 2020, features a throwback to a very special anniversary episode that saw Luke Spencer confront the demons of his past.

References to one Lucas Lorenzo Spencer (Tony Geary) are frequent on this soap. And it only makes sense that his best pal, Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers), would want his help in determining whether or not Holly Sutton (Emma Samms) – the woman that they both loved – really did go down with that WSB manned ship.

So with that in mind, GH chose “Flashback Friday” to repeat an episode showcasing Luke playing spectator to repressed memories – a storyline that would culminate in his exit from the series, hence Robert’s desperate search for his hard-to-reach pal.

Context Is Key

Luke’s (Tony Geary) alternate personality – whom fans and members of the press dubbed Fluke – wreaked havoc across the GH canvas. He bankrolled Julian Jerome (who was then working to undermine Sonny), sexually harassed Kiki Jerome, and convinced Tracy to marry him in a bid to gain access to ELQ.

He even formed a partnership with a plethora of evil-doers, including Helena Cassadine, Jerry Jacks, and Johnny Zacchara. Now, after being coaxed to the fore by Tracy (Jane Elliot), Lulu (Emme Rylan), Bobbie (Jacklyn Zeman), and Patricia (Dee Wallace), the eldest Spencer sibling, Luke has returned to his childhood home determined to understand “Fluke’s” origins.

Memories

Once ensconced inside the Elm Street house, Luke began to recall the events of April 1, 1963…the day his mother, Lena, died and his father abandoned the family. However, as he pressed on, Luke remembered that not only had he accidentally killed his mother, but he had also beaten his father to death.

The former revelation he recalled in vivid detail with the assistance of Tracy and his sisters who arrived at the house and rallied around him. With the truth finally revealed, Luke burst into tears and found comfort in the arms of his family and the ghosts of his past. General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC.
